In keeping with celebrating 35 years of leading the way in IT solutions and services, we're showcasing our noble leader and CEO Bruce Steinfeld. Take a trip back to the founding of Bit by Bit and where he envisions the company going into the future.

When Bruce founded Bit by Bit in 1987, he set up shop in his tiny studio in the West Village in New York City. It was enough for a handful of custom programming clients. He’d been working for a large company and when he saw an opportunity to go out on his own and start IT consulting, he seized it.
He never looked back and 35 years later, he’s still exploring the edge of technology with Bit by Bit, shepherding the company through the pandemic, bridging clients and employees with on-site, in-office, remote, and hybrid IT solutions.
An innovative leader who combines creative thinking with technical acumen, Bruce is a problem solver. He thrives on overcoming client’s challenges with the right technical solutions. His style is that of a good coach – he listens, offers options, and fosters independent thinking - encouraging others to come to an informed resolution. Always respectful of other’s judgement and expertise, he relies on Bit by Bit sales and technical support staff to help make a client’s life easier by providing smart IT solutions with a dash of personalized customer service.
“When I started Bit by Bit someone told me to always hire good people. I’ve been lucky to have brought on board talented employees, many of them here 5, 10, 15, 20 years. We started with one, then two, and now we’re over 60 and each one of them is important to our company.”
Over three decades, Bit by Bit has seen a lot of changes, both within the company and in the warp speed world of technology and IT systems. Launching from the single-employee focused on custom programming and networks to an application development, enterprise fax, Managed Services shop, the vision always remained the same: be creative, be responsive, treat people fairly, and make their lives easier with the best technology.
Bringing on a fleet of stellar sales reps, assembling a tried-and-true group of technical engineers and Help Desk experts and top notch admin followed. Then 10 different offices, spanning from New York to Texas to Indonesia. Not to mention, hanging out with Mr. Met at our yearly NY Mets day, hobnobbing with clients at a cybersecurity event at the Hunt and Fish Club, a celebrity stomping ground, and indulging in a virtual reality experience with big wigs from NIST at another client event.
While technology morphed, Bit by Bit forged into data hosting, cloud services, cybersecurity, workflow and business continuity, 3bExam DOT solution, and Dark Web monitoring.
“I originally thought this would be me working on programming, but Bit by Bit has grown bigger than I ever thought. Our longevity is pretty remarkable in our industry.”
Yet, Bruce believes that while technology rapidly evolves, in some ways it remains constant. When something works, people still rely on it to get a job done. Take fax. Bit by Bit started providing fax solutions over 20 years ago, and it’s still the bedrock for many clients.
“The amazing thing about technology is although it is always changing at the speed of light, with virtualization and AI, it stays still sometimes, as with fax, and is a reliable constant that can offer the best options for running a business with efficiency."
The future of Bit by Bit?
Another 35 years would be good. And like the solutions we offer, keeping ahead of the technology and staying the same with how we do business and provide services to our clients, in whatever ways that will benefit them.
