For our December spotlight, we’re thrilled to feature a true Bit by Bit legend, Rob Bello! A cornerstone of our leadership team for an incredible 27 years, Rob is the go-to person for just about everything, from sales and business development to vendor relations. But his journey in the tech world started long before that, back when the PC was just a wild new idea.
From Wall Street to the PC Revolution
Believe it or not, Rob’s career began in finance, but he quickly realized it wasn’t his calling. In 1984, he jumped into the burgeoning computer industry, working at a small retail shop on Trinity Place, right in the heart of Wall Street. In an era of mainframes and handheld calculators, Rob was on the front lines, introducing financial firms to the magic of the personal computer. It was the dawn of a new age, and he was right there, helping to transform the way people worked. "Looking back, it’s incredible to see how far we’ve come," Rob reflects. "Our journey at Bit by Bit has truly mirrored the evolution of technology itself."
The Heart of Bit by Bit
After nearly three decades with the company, Rob has worn many hats, giving him a unique and deep understanding of the business and the people who make it run. What does he love most about his role? "The collaboration among all departments has been truly remarkable," he shares. "It has played a key role in our company’s success and growth." He cherishes being a source of information and guidance for his colleagues, sharing the wealth of knowledge he’s accumulated over the years.
Off the Clock with Rob
When he’s not steering the ship at Bit by Bit, you can find Rob enjoying the great outdoors. As a kid, his passion was baseball, and his dream was to play professionally. While he may not be on the diamond, he’s still a huge sports fan, frequently attending games and concerts. He also loves hitting the tennis court or golf course.
Family is at the heart of everything for Rob. He gives a heartfelt shout-out to his wife of 39 years, Candice, who "keeps me organized and makes life fun for our family," and his parents for instilling in him strong family values and a powerful work ethic. His favorite food? "Sunday Sauce with family." And his favorite place to visit? Italy. (We’re sensing a theme here!)
Rob’s Fun Facts:
- A Trip to Remember: In 1991, Rob traveled to the Soviet Union for a technology showcase. He describes the experience as "eye-opening," witnessing firsthand how far ahead U.S. technology was at the time.
- His Superheroes: The original Superman, George Reeves, and New York Jets legend "Broadway Joe" Namath. At 10 years old, he watched Joe boldly guarantee a Super Bowl victory against the mighty Colts. and win! "I was spoiled and thought it would be a recurring event," Rob laughs. "I was wrong on that!"
- Binge-Worthy TV: Ozark and The Sopranos.
- Favorite Flicks: It’s a tie between Goodfellas and The Godfather I & II.
From pioneering the PC revolution on Wall Street to being an integral part of our family for 27 years, Rob’s journey is as inspiring as it is impressive. We’re incredibly lucky to have his wisdom, experience, and fun-loving spirit on our team. Cheers to you, Rob! '''
